ন-য়-ক / NYK — Nayak Tee

The mark reads ন-য়-ক, Bangla for N-Y-K. The Y is most complex. Bangla has no real letter for the Y sound, so we picked য়, the closest to the soft "y" in "York." One vowel creates a second meaning: ন-য়-ক becomes নায়ক, nayak, which means hero. New York, read another way. For a team full of heroes.

A nod to the original NYK subway-token logo, first introduced in 1995-96, which drew its look from the old New York City subway token. The mark took on extra nostalgic weight when the city's Transportation Authority formally retired the token in spring 2003, turning an everyday piece of metal into a relic. We rebuilt it in Bangla.
